Winnipeg News
Assiniboine Park Requests New Home for 10 Commandments Monument
The Assiniboine Park Conservancy is seeking a new location for a 10 Commandments monument currently in storage. The monument, gifted to the city in 1965, was removed in 2017 during construction at The Leaf.
Concerns have arisen that reinstalling it may make the park feel less welcoming for some community members. The decision now rests with the city's Welcoming Winnipeg initiative, which aims to ensure inclusivity in historical markers.

New Park Including Basketball Court Coming to Northwood Community Centre
A new park is being developed at the Northwood Community Centre in Winnipeg, featuring a basketball court, playground equipment, and new pathways. The $602,000 project is a collaboration between all three levels of government.
Officials emphasize that the park will provide a safe and inclusive environment for residents to promote active living. The park's construction is set to begin soon, with an expected opening in June 2025.
Manitoba First Nation Resident Named Miss Indigenous Canada
Jessica McKenzie from Opaskwayak Cree Nation has been named the inaugural Miss Indigenous Canada. The pageant, held over three days in Ontario, focused on Indigenous traditions, culture, and leadership rather than beauty.
McKenzie's presentation honored her grandfather, a residential school survivor and photographer. She aims to inspire youth in various Indigenous communities to embrace their heritage.
